Chancel Repair Liability
The original parish church for Wickham Bishops was St Peter’s Church just across the old railway line. St Bartholomew’s Church was built during 1849 and opened in 1850 replacing the old church and any Tithes for ‘Lay Rectors’ in respect of Chancel Repair Liability on the old church ceased at that time. As St Bartholomew's Church was built after the Tithe Commutation Act 1836 came into force, no Chancel Repair Liability exists within the old Wickham Bishops Parish and neither does it apply to St Nicholas Church, Little Braxted now within the current ecclesiastical parish as St Nicholas Church has an Apse rather than a Chancel. Parochial Church Councils had to check for potential Chancel Repair Liability by 12 October 2013 if they wished to register a potential liability for Chancel Repair Liability with the Land Registry. As no liability would exist there was no need for our parish to register.

Because of this there is no need for any Chancel Repair Liability Indemnity Insurance on properties purchased in both Wickham Bishops and Little Braxted.
